🥕 Nutrition at Wonderland Nursery: What a Day Of Eating Looks Like
At Wonderland Nursery, we believe that happy tummies make happy children!
Good food fuels play, learning, and all those busy adventures our little ones get up to. 🍎
I thought it might be helpful to give you a peek into what a typical day of eating looks like here — plus a few ideas you can try at home too.
🌞 Breakfast or Morning Snack
We start the day with a good breakfast between 8-9am, something to give the children energy to start their morning.
This might include:
• Toast fingers with butter - eggs
• Porridge/weetabix/rice crispies
• Banana or apple or berries
• Milk or water to drink
We keep it simple, familiar, and nutritious — little hands, little appetites, big energy!
🍽️ Lunchtime
Lunch is all about balance. I always prepare a hot homely cooked meal.
• Protein (like chicken, lentils, beans, or eggs)
• Carbohydrates (pasta, rice, wraps, or wholemeal bread)
• Fruit or Veggies (we always sneak in extra where we can!)
Some meals the children love:
• Spaghetti bolognaise
• Curries with Rice
• Pasta dishes
• Homemade soups and baguettes
Every Sunday, I do a new meal plan and post it on my socials so that parents can see what we will be eating for the week.
We sit down together — it’s a lovely chance to chat, practise manners, and enjoy food as a group.
🍎 Afternoon Snack
After a busy morning of play, we’ll have another light snack to keep everyone going.
Some favourites include:
• Cream crackers or breadsticks
• Fruit
• Yoghurt
• Rice cakes and cheese
Water is available all day.
🥪 Tea Time
Between 4-4:30pm I always offer the children a light tea, something to keep them going before they go home and have a family meal with their parents. This will consist of something like:
• Sandwich and cucumber sticks
• Buttered scone and veggies
• Beans on toast
• Pesto pasta
Normally followed by some fruit or one of their homemade bakes.
🌈 Encouraging Healthy Habits
Part of my role as a childminder is helping children learn what healthy choices look like — in a fun, natural way.
Sometimes we even do little cooking or baking activities — they get to enjoy their bakes for pudding after tea 🍪
💬 For Parents
If your child has any allergies, dietary needs, or preferences, I’ll always adapt and make sure they feel included.
Communication is key — we’ll chat regularly so you always know what your child’s eating and how they’re doing.
You’re also welcome to share any favourite family recipes — I love swapping ideas!
💕 Final Thoughts
At Wonderland Nursery, healthy eating is extremely important.
We eat together, talk together, and make food fun.
It’s all part of helping children feel cared for, independent, and full of energy for their day of play!
