📚 Book of the Week: What The Ladybird Heard 🐞
This week in our nursery, we’ve explored one of our favourite stories — What The Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks! 🐞✨
This delightful tale takes us on a farmyard adventure, where a clever little ladybird outsmarts two sneaky thieves with the help of her animal friends. With its rhyming text and bright illustrations it’s a story that captures children’s imaginations.
🌾 Why We Love This Book
• Rhyming fun: The rhythm and rhyme make it perfect for little ears, helping children develop early language and listening skills.
• Teamwork & problem-solving: The animals all work together to save the day, showing children how cooperation and friendship can make a big difference.
• Sensory excitement: The glittery ladybird and colourful farm animals encourage visual exploration and curiosity.
🐔 Activities Inspired by the Story
To bring the story to life, we’ve been enjoying lots of themed activities this week, including:
• 🎨 Farmyard crafts: The children created their own ladybirds using homemade red and black play dough!
• 🚜 Small world play: Our farmyard play set was busy with little farmers, animals, and tractors — perfect for storytelling and imaginative play, along with reading the book with stick pictures to bring the story to life.
