Winter Clothing Essentials ❄️ Keeping Our Little Ones Cosy!

As the colder weather starts to creep in, we want to make sure all your little ones are warm, cosy and comfortable throughout their nursery day.

As you know, we use multiple locations and spaces within our setting, and although we work hard to keep each room between 16–20°C in line with our EYFS temperature guidance, temperatures can naturally fluctuate throughout the day.

The Cabin is always heated, and we have the heating on to help maintain a comfortable temperature. However, there can be moments, particularly first thing in the morning and towards the early evening, when the space can begin to feel a little chilly.

With this in mind, we'd really appreciate everyone's help in making sure children come dressed appropriately for the colder months.

🧥 Our Winter Clothing Checklist

Here are a few essentials we'd love every child to have available at nursery:

1. A fluffy fleece This is an absolute must! Please send your child in with a warm, fluffy fleece that they can comfortably wear indoors and that can also be worn underneath their fleece-lined puddle suit when we head outside.

2. Warm socks Little toes can get chilly, so please make sure your child has some nice, warm socks each day.

3. Soft-soled slippers A comfortable pair of soft-soled slippers is perfect for wearing indoors. They help keep little feet warm and cosy, particularly during those cooler parts of the day.

4. A warm winter hat For our outdoor garden adventures, please make sure your child has a warm hat. If your little one isn't particularly fond of wearing hats, a fleece with a hood is a great alternative, or you could try a hat with ties to help keep it in place.

5. Gloves and a scarf These are optional but welcome if your child likes wearing them. We recommend practical, comfortable options that won't get in the way of play.

6. Extra layers in their bag Ideally, children should arrive wearing a vest and top, with an additional pair of leggings in their nursery bag. When the temperature really starts to drop, we can easily pop an extra layer underneath their trousers to help keep them warm.

Why Are Layers So Important?

Throughout the day, our little ones move between different spaces, take part in active play, enjoy quieter activities and spend time outdoors. Their temperature needs can change quite quickly.

Having plenty of layers available means we can adapt their clothing to suit the environment and the activities they're enjoying, helping everyone stay comfortable without getting too hot or too cold.

Thank you, as always, for working alongside us and helping us keep your little ones happy and warm throughout the winter months.
